New Press, ETC
Wow, I was really feeling it in that last post. Things are much better.
I didn’t realize that doing publicity was going to be such a full-time job. Every day has been full of phone interviews and deadlines for essays. There are a bunch of new press items out like this New York Post piece, an interview I did with a former Jane co-worker at The Frisky and a new Huffington Post op-ed. I’ve been doing lots of live radio interviews around the country, I’ll post any that I can find online as they come up.
I’ve been really excited to talk to college newspapers about Pill Head, but I’m a little mortified with the outcome. I’m not sure if this is just the new way to do things, but they’ve been printing interview questions as exact answers instead of doing any editing to make them sound like coherent sentences. When I do radio, I make sure to keep my answers short and sweet, but when I do taped interviews for written articles, I tend to ramble on a bit and keep my language looser, since I know the answers will be edited down to short answers to fit the writer’s needs. At least that’s how it is with regular newspapers and magazines. Student papers just print exactly what I say. It’s a really good lesson for me to learn — I need to be responsible for every single word that comes out of my mouth and not just assume that the interviewer will know what I’m saying and re-write it. I’ve definitely been screwing that up. No more.
